Since 2009 is halfway over I decided to make a list of the top 30 albums that have been released so far this year. I'm going to start with posting 30-16 and try to get the top 15 up either tomorrow or Monday.
30. The Dear Hunter - Act III: Life And Death - A concept album of sorts, I feel like I need to listen to it more to really gauge how I feel about it, this album could easily move up or move down by the time my year end list rolls out.
29. The Decemberists - The Hazards Of Love - For some reason with the Decemberists I really enjoy a few songs, can tolerate a bunch and don't like a small few. Since I'm rating overall albums the really good songs can't hold up the clunkers, thus it gets stuck at 29.
28. Trophy Scars - Bad Luck - This band basically broke up but then fans donated money for them to record this album and I'm glad they did as there is something about this band that I really like, his singing voice is definitely different though.
27. Shook Ones - The Unquotable A.M.H. - I was actually listening to this album for the first time as I made this list, it ended up knocking another album of the list, I feel this album will move up some spots by years end.
26. Future Of The Left - Travels With Myself And Another - I'm having a hard time putting this album into words so just go and read the review on Pitchfork or something, they get paid to state their opinions and its basically the same as mine.
25. N.A.S.A. - The Spirit Of Apollo - Any album that features Tom Waits "rapping" has to be good right, this album features a lot of guests and is an overall fun album to listen to.
24. Dredg - The Pariah, The Parrot, And The Delusion - This like a lot of other albums I feel like I should listen to it more, it did get downgraded for having to many of those filler tracks that I tell Itunes to skip while on shuffle.
23. AC Newman - Get Guilty - A very fun and catchy album to listen to by one the guys from The New Pornographers, has some great songs that get stuck in your head well after you finish listening to the album.
22. Yesterday's Ring - Diamonds In The Ditch - This band is the country-folk side project of some of the members of the Canadian punk band the Sainte Catherines. There is something about these country-folk side projects featuring members of punk bands I like that I really enjoy and this is definitely one of the best.
21. The Syncope Threshold - Tale Of The Complex Circuit - It's hard to talk about this band without mentioning Protest The Hero which is one of my favorite bands, so if you like them you will definitely like the Syncope Threshold.
20. Classified - Self-Explanatory - Classified is a Canadian rapper and for some reason I was thinking that I had a bunch of songs that I skipped on Itunes but I just realized that I didn't, hmmm, so this album might have a positive change by the time the final list rolls out at the end of the year.
19. Iran - Dissolver - I had never heard of this band until this album, and I am definitely a fan of it now, this is their first album in I think 7 years and it's a lot better produced than their older efforts, I find myself liking this album a lot more than their older stuff.
18. The Church - Untitled #23 - This band has been around for a long time and is best known for their song Under The Milky Way which came out in the Late 80's. This is a great album to just put on and completely zone out to.
17. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix - I Really enjoyed their last album and to me this album is a little different but I definitely enjoy it, has some great catchy songs that should be on the radio if they are not already.
16. As Cities Burn - Hell Or High Water - Definitely a surprise album I kind of liked their first one, could only stand one song on their second one and then they release this album which is nothing like their previous efforts and much better to listen to.
There you go, look forward to part 2.
